  • The Hurt-Motley Ruritan Club

    Friday, September 08, 2017 : 7:00 PM to Friday, December 22, 2017 : 10:30 PM

    The Hurt-Motley Ruritan Club, Jasper Woods Road, Hurt, will begin their Fall Turkey Shoots on September 8, and run through December 22. The shoots will be held every Friday night 7-10:30 p.m. at the Hurt-Motley Community Center. For more information call 434-426-9976.

    The Second Helping Ministry is held each Wednesday from 11 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at Altavista Presbyterian Church. The meal will be served next by Second St. Paul Baptist Church.

  • PHML Pre School Story Time

    Patrick Henry Memorial Library in Brookneal will offer a free children's program Thursday, October 19- Thursday, November 9. Pre School Storytime for children ages 3-5 years and their parent/caregivers on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is required. www.campbellcountylibraries.org

  • Rustburg UMC Fall Festival

    Saturday, October 21, 2017 : 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

    Rustburg United Methodist Church at 664 Village Highway, will have a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 21, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Join us for a day of great shopping and good food. There will be local crafters, a bargain yard sale, Brunswick stew by the quart and meal, barbecue by the quart and meal, baked goods and hot dogs. We look forward to seeing you there.     The 11th Annual Women's Conference will be held at Silver Grove Baptist Church on Friday Oct. 27, 6 p.m. (dinner served) and on Saturday, Oct. 28, 9 a.m. (lunch served).   • Relay for Life 5K Glow Run

    A Relay for Life 5K Glow Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at English Park in Altavista. The start time is 5:30 p.m. with the kids lap. A testimonial time will be held at 6:15 p.m. with the 5K Glow Run happening at 6:30 p.m. The park is located at 206 Pittsylvania Avenue, Altavista. Registration is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event. Medals will be given to the top three in each age group. Door prizes will be awarded. Don't forget to wear your costume.   • Mt. Carmel UMC Stew

    Saturday, October 28 Mt. Carmel U.M.C. will be having a stew at Jerry and Brenda Bowers shop, just across and down from Lester's Fast Mart on Hwy 40. We will be making three pots; chicken, beef and mixed. Cost is $7 per quart or $25 per gallon. Stew ready around 11 a.m. All proceeds will go towards the expenses of the Honduras Mission Trip coming up in 2018. Pre-orders are welcomed.   • Lighthouse BC Fall Festival

    Lighthouse Community Baptist Church at 270 Hunter Road, Brookneal, will present its 1st Annual Fall Festival on October 31, 6-9 p.m. There will be games, prizes and treats. Costumes are welcome but this is a Christian festival with no costumes such as ghosts, witches or monsters permitted. You will be asked to leave. This event is free of charge.

    The Campbell County Department of Social Services will offer free parenting classes in November at the Social Services Building, 69 Kabler Lane, Rustburg. Classes will be 7-9 p.m. on November 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, and 16.

  • Christmas Joy at Avoca

    Saturday, December 02, 2017 : 1:00 PM to Sunday, December 10, 2017 : 5:00 PM

    Avoca Museum's annual Christmas Open House, "Christmas Joy," will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 2,3,9 and 10, at the museum located at 1514 Main St., Altavista. Each room of the Victorian home will be decorated by Avoca's volunteers and members of the Altavista community. The event features musical entertainment, refreshments, visits by Santa, a bake sale and a silent auction with all proceeds benefiting Avoca Museum's educational programs. Admission is $5for adults, $2 for children ages 6 to 11 and free for ages 5 and younger. Tickets are available at the museum gift shop the days of the event.
