  • Attention Senior Citizens

    Anyone who likes to play Rook or work a puzzle is invited to spend afternoons with senior adults at the Lynch Station Ruritan Senior Center, beginning each Thursday, year round, from noon-4 pm, beginning with a covered dish lunch.   • Grief Share Program to Start in Brookneal

    Thursday, April 27, 2017 : 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM

    Grief Share, a grief seminar and support group, began, Thursday, March 2, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., at Falling River Baptist Church, 2874 Wickliffe Road, Brookneal. Anyone that has experienced any type of lost from disaster, death or other loss, and needs a group with those who understand, is welcome to attend. Grief Share is where you can find comfort and encouragement during this difficult time. You can join at any time during the session. This is an eight week program.     Narcotics Anonymous meetings are held Saturdays from 8-9 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 12th Street & Franklin Avenue in Altavista. Meetings are open to anyone.

    Donation-A-Week-Neighbors (DAWN)provides emergency services for area families and is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am-12 noon. The office is located in back of the Altavista Fire Company station.

  • New Bethel United Methodist Clothes Closet

    Thursday, May 04, 2017 : 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

    New Bethel United Methodist Church is opening a clothes closet for those in need. The clothes closet will be open each month on the first Thursday and the fourth Saturday at the same hours of 9 a.m.-12 noon.

    New Bethel United Methodist is located at 7061 Dews Road in Hurt.

  • New Prospect Baptist Clothes Closet

    Thursday, May 04, 2017 : 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

    New Prospect Baptist Church, 509 Prospect Road, Hurt, will hold a Clothes Closet the first Thursday of each month from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The Clothes Closet is a free mission service and is open to the public.

  • Vendor Fair

    Lane United Methodist Church youth are hosting another vendor fair, Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. All proceeds go to the youth fund for missions trips. The church is located at 1201 Bedford Ave., Altavista.

  • Black Pot Chicken Fundraiser

    Saturday, May 13, 2017 : 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

    The United Methodist Men and Women will be holding a Black Pot Chicken Fundraiser, Saturday, May 13, at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, 171 Mount Hermon Rd., Lynch Station, in the fellowship hall. The event runs from 5-7 p.m., and the cost is $8 per plate. Plates include two pieces of chicken, white, (breast and wing, or dark (leg and thigh), two sides, roll, desert, and drink.   • Habitat For Humanity 20th Celebration

    Habitat for Humanity will hold a 20th birthday celebration Saturday, May 13, from 5-7 p.m. at the Booker Building. Everyone is invited to join in for hotdogs and hamburgers and birthday cake. Bring a side or dessert to share or just bring an appetite. Music, games and fun for the whole family will be enjoyed. Habitat for Humanity appreciates all prayers, support and donations over the years and hopes to see everyone there.

  • Altavista Church of God of Prophecy Senior Luncheon

    Altavista Church of God of Prophecy, 915 9th Street, will hold a luncheon and bingo the third Thursday of the month, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for ages 55 and up.

  • Habitat For Humanity Activities

    A baked potato dinner will be held Friday, May 19, at First Baptist Church on Bedford Avenue. Cost is $7 per dinner, which includes baked potato with fixings, salad, dessert and drink.

    Anchor of Light, a suicide awareness candlelight service, will be held Saturday, May 20, from 6-8 p.m. at the Booker Building. For more details, follow on the Facebook page.

  • Awareness Candlelight Service - Anchors Of Light

    Saturday, May 20, 2017 : 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

    The candlelight service will be held at the Booker Building (the intersection of Broad Street and 3rd Street, Altavista). The mission is to provide support for families and friends affected by suicide and to bring awareness.
