  • NHVFD Announces Fundraisers

    The North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary has set the following dates as Fundraisers this year.
    *Pancake Supper- Saturday February 3 (Snow Date: Saturday, February 10)
    *Turkey Luncheon- Sunday March 18
    *Vera Bradley Bingo- Sunday, April 8
    *Marathon- Saturday, September 8
    *Trunk or Treat- Wednesday, October 31
    *Spaghetti Luncheon- Sunday, November 4
    *Christmas Tree Lighting- Sunday, December 2
    The station is located at 4201 Leda Grove Road, Nathalie. The pancake supper on February 3 will begin at 5 p.m. Adults: $6 and children age 10 and under is $3. The menu includes pancakes and your choice of bacon or sausage, fried apples, coffee or tea. Carry out plates are available. Snow date is February 10

  • Centra 2018 Bereavement Calendar

    Tuesday, February 20, 2018 to Tuesday, December 11, 2018

    Through our Bereavement Program we offer support not only to family members of hospice patients who have passed but to the community as well.
    Throughout 2018 there will be Grief Support Groups held in a specified meeting location in Bedford, Farmville, and Lynchburg. In October 2018, there will be several programs held in the community related to Grief and the Holidays.

  • Gretna Volunteer Fire Department

    Thursday, March 1, 2018 to Saturday, August 18, 2018

    Gretna Volunteer Fire Department is currently selling Raffle Tickets for a Camouflage Honda Rancher 4 Wheel Drive Four-Wheeler. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased by any Fire Department member. Tickets also available at Mason's NAPA Auto Parts and Western Auto in Gretna. Drawing will be held, Saturday, August 18, at the BBQ Dinner. You do not have to be present to win.

    Gretna Cruise-in will be held every third Saturday from May 19 - October 20 from 4-8 p.m. on Main Street, Gretna. All vehicles are welcome. Come out and have a good time.

  • Enrollment Underway for Summer Educational Fun Camp In Lynchburg

    The Bright Hope Educational Learning Center, 2310 Fort Avenue Lynchburg, is now enrolling for the Summer Educational Fun Camp. The camp begins Tuesday May 29 and runs through Friday, August 10, 2018 for ages 5-10. Camp hours from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Partial Scholarships Available. For more information call Patricia J.   • Mt. Plain Baptist Church

    Sunday, June 24, 2018 to Thursday, June 28, 2018

    Mt. Plain Baptist Church, 3746 Johnson Mountain Road, Evington, will have their annual revival the week of June 24-28 with Reverend Artemus Dixon, pastor of New Dearington Baptist Church, Lynchburg as the pastor for the week. Sunday Service will start at 3 p.m. and Monday through Thursday, services start at 7 p.m. There will be no prayer and praise service. Area choirs will render music.
    Homecoming, Sunday, July 1, with Pastor Coolidge E. Rhodes, Sr., preaching the 11 a.m. sermon. The reverend Artemus Dixon, will be our guest preacher at 3 p.m. Lunch will be served.

    The Robert E. Lee Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Directors regular meeting is held the fourth Thursday of the month except December. The next meeting is scheduled for June 28, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at the Spring House Restaurant on Rt. 460 (9789 Richmond Hwy), Lynchburg, Virginia.     Monday, July 2, 2018 : 7:00 PM to Wednesday, July 18, 2018 : 9:00 PM

    A series of Free Parenting Education Classes will be offered at Campbell County Department of Social Services located at 69 Kabler Lane, Rustburg. Parents of children any age are encouraged to participate. That includes all parents: married, single, step, grand and custodial. Topics of discussion will include: child development, self-esteem, role-modeling, communication, discipline techniques, sibling rivalry, children in the middle, and stress management. Child care will NOT be provided. Classes will be held from 7-9 p.m. on the following dates: July 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18.   • 2018 Dejarnette Family Reunion

    2018 Dejarnette Family Reunion will take place at Childrey Baptist Church on Saturday, July 21, 12 Noon.
    Directions: Take Route 501 South from Brookneal, aprox. 5 miles to Childry Church Road on left, Childrey Baptist Church is on your left.
    All decendants of the Dejarnettes, (Early Amerticans Families 1699), and their friends are welcome. Please bring enough food and drinks for you and your party. Plates, cups and utensils will be available.
    Bring anything such as pics, old receipts, marriage license etc. that relates to the history of the DeJarnettes. There will be a lot to talk about a Historical Marker was placed at the Old Tavern on Stagecoach Road.   • Score 'Fore' Education Gold Tournament

    Registration is open for the Altavista Chamber's Education Foundation Golf Tournament to be held at The Willows on Saturday, August 18. All proceeds benefit the Education Foundation which offers scholarships to area students, honors outstanding area teachers, offers grant opportunities, and more. 18 hole tournament format with an 8:30 a.m. Shotgun Start, Captain's Choice, and prizes will be awarded.
