    The North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary has set the following dates as Fundraisers this year.
    *Pancake Supper- Saturday February 3 (Snow Date: Saturday, February 10)
    *Turkey Luncheon- Sunday March 18
    *Vera Bradley Bingo- Sunday, April 8
    *Marathon- Saturday, September 8

    The station is located at 4201 Leda Grove Road, Nathalie. The pancake supper on February 3 will begin at 5 p.m. Adults: $6 and children age 10 and under is $3. The menu includes pancakes and your choice of bacon or sausage, fried apples, coffee or tea. Carry out plates are available. Snow date is February 10

  • Centra 2018 Bereavement Calendar

    Tuesday, February 20, 2018 to Tuesday, December 11, 2018

    Through our Bereavement Program we offer support not only to family members of hospice patients who have passed but to the community as well.
    Throughout 2018 there will be Grief Support Groups held in a specified meeting location in Bedford, Farmville, and Lynchburg. In October 2018, there will be several programs held in the community related to Grief and the Holidays.

    Gretna Volunteer Fire Department is currently selling Raffle Tickets for a Camouflage Honda Rancher 4 Wheel Drive Four-Wheeler. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased by any Fire Department member. Tickets also available at Mason's NAPA Auto Parts and Western Auto in Gretna. Drawing will be held, Saturday, August 18, at the BBQ Dinner. You do not have to be present to win.

    The Annual Mimi Wheeler Art & Photography Show is now accepting applications for the Uncle Billy's Day Show, Saturday, June 2. Monetary awards and ribbons will be given to Best Show Art, Best in Show Photography, Peoples Choice Art, Peoples Choice Photography and first place in each category.   • Relay for Life

    Saturday, April 07, 2018 to Friday, April 27, 2018

    Relay Volunteers to honor cancer survivors. Cancer survivors across Campbell County and the surrounding area are invited to celebrate their victories over this dreaded disease at receptions leading up to the Relay for Life in Altavista.
    Altavista area survivors are invited to a reception, Saturday, April 7, at New Prospect Baptist Church, 509 Prospect Road, Hurt, 5-7 p.m. Rustburg area survivors are invited to a reception on Saturday, April 14, at White's United Methodist Church, 383 English Tavern Road, Rustburg, starting with check-ins at 5 p.m. The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m.
    Both receptions are free and will include meals and other activities. Survivors and guest are welcome.
    For the April 15 reception, call the ACS office by April 6. The office number is 434-845-0974.

  • Red House VFD to Hold Turkey Contest

    Saturday, April 21, 2018 to Saturday, April 28, 2018

    Red House Vol. FD Turkey Contest: $20.00 registration fee for one turkey entry. $10.00 for any additional turkeys killed within the week. The contest will run from April 21 - April 28th. Judging will be by weight of the turkey combined with length of beard and spurs. 1st prize will be for the largest and 2nd prize for the smallest. Turkeys must be checked in by 1:30 p.m. on the day of the kill. Registration will be held 7:00 p.m. on April 20th at Red House Fire Department. Contact information will be given at the registration. You must have a valid hunting license on the day of check in. You must have at least ten signed up to hold the contest. For more information you may contact.   • Volunteer Tutors Needed

    Wednesday, April 25, 2018

    Adult and Career Education (ACE) of Central Virginia provides free GED classes and career readiness training for adults throughout the region. We are currently seeking volunteer literacy tutors to work one-on-one or in small group settings with individuals needing extra support, in basic literacy or English as a second language. No experience necessary; we will provide training and resources. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in both an individuals life, and in our community. Our next orientation/training session will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25th, and will take place at the Amherst Education Center, 219 Trojan Road, Madison Heights. If you are unable to attend this session, we'll be happy to work with you to find a more suitable time.   • Catfish Tournament

    Friday, April 27, 2018 to Sunday, April 29, 2018

    Staunton River Masonic Lodge #155 will hold the 6th Annual Catfish Tournament, Friday, April 27 through Sunday April 29, at the Brookneal Boat Ramp on the Staunton River. Entry fee is $40 per fisher. First through Fifth place prizes will be awarded. Tournament begins at 8 p.m. Friday and ends 2 p.m. Sunday. Onsite registration will be available at the Brookneal Boat Ramp 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, April 27. Children under 12 may fish with a parent or guardian without being registered in the tournament, however they will not be eligible for prize money.   • Deputy Jason Saunders Memorial Car Show & Spring Festival

    Saturday, April 28, 2018 : 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM

    The Campbell County Sheriff's Office will hold the 11th annual Deputy Jason Saunders Memorial Car Show & Spring Festival on Saturday, April 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Yellow Branch Elementary School, 377 Dennis Riddle Drive, Rustburg.
    In addition to the car show, the event will include a drug take-back, free document shredding, free car seat check, food and craft vendors and DJ music. Free giveaways and activities for children and car lovers alike.
    Pre-registration for car entries and merchandising vendors can be done at the Campbell County Sheriff's Office, 87 Courthouse Lane, Rustburg, by visiting, www.campbellcountyva.gov or call Rhonda Mason at 434-332-9580. Fee for car entries and merchandising vendors is $15 through April 20 and $75 after April 20. First 75 car entries receive a participation souvenir.

  • Hurt Pentecostal Holiness Church

    Mel-O-Tones will be performing, Sunday, April 29, 11 a.m. at Hurt Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1212 Grit Road, Hurt. It has been over 50 years since the group started singing. This group was started under the direction of Mrs. Peggy Smith Short as a young ladies Gospel Choral Group. The Mel-O Tones performed all over the state of Virginia, North and South Carolina reaching out to all denominations, spreading the word of God through song.     "Bill Joyner and the Gospel Express" will be performing a concert at Rough Creek Presbyterian Church on April 29th at 7:00 p.m. There will be light refreshments following the concert and all are welcome to attend. The church is located three miles north of Phenix on highway 727.
