Alice Phillips Myers

Alice Hughes Phillips Myers, 96, of Altavista died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was married first to the late Lewis Joseph Phillips and then to the late Daniel Lanier Myers. She was a beloved mother and grandmother that enjoyed life to it?s fullest. She was also a loving daughter, who was a caregiver for her parents. Her love for people made her so special. She was born June 20, 1914 in Winfall near Gladys, VA, a daughter of the late Jasper Dews Hughes and Idella Caldwell Hughes. She was a 1935 graduate of Gladys High School. She was a member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church where she served faithfully, a member of the Woodmen of the World and a retired employee of the Lane Company with thirty-three years service. Alice also retired from the Green Thumb Program with the Rustburg Recreation Department and was a former member of the Pedal Pushers Garden Club, Altavista Woman?s Club, Altavista Senior Center and Lynch Station Senior Citizen?s Group. She is survived by one daughter, Connie Phillips Wilson and her husband Roger of Lynch Station; one step-son, P. Leon Myers and his wife Ann of Bedford; a step-daughter-in-law, Jane B. Myers of Blackstone; two grandsons, Stacy L. Wilson and wife Brigitte and William W. Wilson and wife Tammy; one great grandson, Hunter Wilson; step-grandchildren, Rhonda Myers, Elgin Myers, Jr., Steve Myers, Robbi Myers and Lynn Myers; step great grandchildren, Daniel, Lauren and Ethan Myers and Chanler Hall; and special nieces, Inez Camden, Doris Robertson and Katie Robertson. She was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Hughes Hamner. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2010 at Lane Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rick Woodall with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6:30 p.m., Thursday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence of her daughter Connie, 295 Bishop Creek Rd., Lynch Station. A special thanks to the entire staff of Autumn Care of Altavista for their out pouring of love and compassion over the past seven plus years. Mom made you laugh and you made her happy.
