Alice Maddox White

Alice Virginia Maddox White, 87, of 4171 Roaring Run Road, Goode, VA, died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Lynchburg General Hospital, VA. She was the wife of the late Arthur Remington White, Jr., in a marriage that spanned 55 years. She was born November 24, 1931 in Richmond, VA, a daughter of the late Paul Maddox and Hilda Etta Cornell Maddox. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC, and a retired nurse. Alice was proud to be one of the founding members of The Haiti Mission and a Master of Foxhounds of the Meckinburg Hunt. She is survived by one son, Paul Maddox Remington White and his wife, Andrea of Georgetown, SC; two daughters, Alicia White Daily and her husband, Dick of Goode, VA and Dr. Virginia White Gale and her husband, Dixon Cole of Locust Hill, VA. Mrs. White enjoyed her 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Cornell White, and an older sister, Dorothy Sykes of Richmond, VA. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211 by the Rev. Dr. R.A. "Dick" Daily and the Rev. Dr. Bill Jeffries. On a more personal note, family and friends remember Alice as a wonderful, faithful woman of God, a lifelong United Methodist Church goer and dedicated missionary. She was an artist, a horse farmer, an RN with a private pilot's license. She cared deeply for those in our world who had little and she gave much…of herself, her treasures and her example. Her 40 years of leadership in The Haiti Mission has literally transformed thousands of lives, and her legacy continues into the third generation. Her role as active wife, mother, Church worker, grand and great grandmother had many positives that live on in those who she blessed. She grew up as a Methodist and enjoyed the music of the Church as both a choir member, and as a lover of classical Church music. She was a marvelous cook, always a "Virginia Lady…born and bred" and kept that high standard throughout her life. She fought against limitations and proved that even the sky was NOT her limit…she will be missed.
