Betty Keesee Lanier

Betty Keesee Lanier, born on March 27, 1937, in Altavista, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at Autumn Care of Altavista, where she had been a resident for the past two and a half years. She was 89 years old. Born to David and Vivian Shelton Keesee, Betty was the eldest of their two daughters. From an early age, she embodied the values of kindness, hard work, and devotion to family that would define her throughout her life. On a very cold and snowy day in February 1955, Betty married the love of her life, Larry Dale Lanier. Together they built a farm life rooted in love, faith, hard work, and devotion to their two children, Leslie Jo Lanier and Kimberly Lanier Dalton. Betty lived a life centered on compassion, faith, and service to others. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, caring sister, aunt, and treasured friend. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, celebrating life's milestones, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. Known for her gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart, Betty had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. She was always ready with words of encouragement, a listening ear, or a helping hand. An avid reader, Betty found joy and comfort in books throughout her life. Her quiet strength, love of learning, and unwavering faith carried her through life's joys and challenges, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Nancy Keesee Andrews, whose memory she cherished throughout her life. She leaves behind a family who will forever treasure her love, wisdom, and the example she set through a life well lived. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers and staff at Autumn Care of Altavista for the care and compassion they provided during Betty's time there. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in the many wonderful memories she leaves behind and in the enduring legacy of love, faith, and kindness she shared with her family and friends. Betty will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Monday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
