Carlton Kerr

Carlton Rosser Kerr, 88, of 107 Marysville Road, Altavista died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Avante of Lynchburg. He was the husband of Dorothy Barker Kerr. He was born June 26, 1925 in Campbell County, a son of the late George Richard Kerr and Fannie Booker Kerr. He was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle, a retired mechanic for Campbell County and most recently drove buses for Sonny Merryman. Carlton was a loving husband, father, papa and Christian man. He enjoyed singing with the Goodtimers group and playing many different instruments. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, W.C. (Wimpy) Kerr and his wife Juliet of Rustburg and Dennis Kerr and his wife Kathy of Lynchburg; two daughters, Pam (P.J.) Viar and her husband Danny of Lynchburg and Vickie Barker and her husband Mike Pedro of Altavista; one brother, Harry Kerr of Gladys; ten grandchildren, Sherri Sicili (Randy), Heather Hudson (Tim), Crystal Reed (John), Josh Prebble (Amanda), Nick Viar (Sarah), Jenny Sims (Steve), Jessica Kerr, Tom Millner, Joe Millner and Ben Millner; and Twelve great grandchildren, Katelyn, Wyatt, Atticus, Abigail, Callen, Benton, Aaron, Blake, Trey, Camden, Mikayla and Caleb. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Nannie Morris, Margaret Brown and Lucy Walthall; three brothers, Richard, Wesley and Clarence Kerr; and three grandchildren April Prebble, Heath Prebble and Wyatt Viar. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Baptist Tabernacle by the Rev. George Knight and Rev. Daniel Ray with interment to follow in Barker Family Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Friday at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the home of Vickie Barker, 73 Marysville Rd., Altavista, VA 24517.
