Charles Jones

Charles Edward Jones, 65, of Hurt went to be with his Lord on Friday, July 16, 2010. A native of Durham County, NC, Charles was the son of the late Annie Laurie Jones and Casey Cohen Jones. He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 43 years, Anne Crabtree Jones, his precious daughters and their husbands Tanya East and Brian, Marianne Wilson and David all of Hurt, his sister, Deborah Aiken of Oxford, NC, two nieces and one nephew. The greatest joy of his life was time spent with his wonderful grandchildren. Zach Wilson, LeNae Wilson, Layton Wilson, Brianna East, and Braelyn East were quick to tell anyone who would listen, Charlie can do anything. He was a fix-it man for family, neighbors, and his church. His abundant vegetable garden blessed many friends who would often find a bag of potatoes, tomatoes, beans, or corn left at their door. Clearly, Charles gave from a heart of love. A 1966 graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in Textile Chemistry, Charles was an employee of BGF Industries for 43 years where he was a Senior Process Engineer. He was a member and past president of Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity at NCSU. Charles was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Altavista, where he served his Lord in many capacities. He was a member of the Hurt Lions Club for 26 years and most recently the Altavista Lions Club. In 2003, Charles was named a Jones Fellow, the highest award possible in Lionism. He served on the Altavista Sheltered Workshop Board for 24 years and had a deep commitment to the workshop mission. Charles' greatest desire was to leave the world a better place than he found it. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2010 at First Baptist Church by Dr. Michael S. Lee and the Rev. Bobby Hull with interment to follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Sunday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence, 113 Ridgeview Rd., Hurt.
