Danny Main Crawley

It is with deep sadness that the family of Danny Main Crawley of Evington, Virginia announces his passing on June 22, 2022. The constant and abiding husband of 56 years to Martha Nunn Crawley, Danny will forever remain a cherished heirloom on her heart. Danny was also the beloved daddy to Melissa Crawley Twisdale (Mike) of Hampton, Virginia; Sara Crawley Moffett (Brett) of Simpsonville, Kentucky; and Daniel Wade Crawley (Brittany) of Evington, Virginia. Danny retired from Southern Air in 2008 after 38 years of service. As a talented tradesman, Danny enjoyed working with his hands and took great pride in using his gifts to help restore and rebuild the lives of others in times of need. One of his great joys was the time he spent leading mission teams in this work. An active member of Salem United Methodist Church, Danny looked forward to weekly Bible study with his Sunday school class. Danny found no greater joy in the summertime than his daily walks to the garden. He kept a watchful eye on his fruit trees and vegetables and enjoyed harvesting enough each year for canning and sharing with others. Born April 17, 1946, Danny is predeceased by his parents Thomas Ramsey Crawley and Ola Pickeral Crawley of Gretna, Virginia. Danny was known as Papa to his nine grandchildren, Lucas, Caleb, Joshua, Micaela, Seth, Emma, Madison, Colton, and Baileigh Main and one great grandchild, Evelyn. Danny treasured his family ties and is survived by three sisters and their husbands, Shirlene Barley (Donny), Carolyn Bailess (Scotty), and Christine Oakes (Dwight) and two brothers and their wives Russel Crawley (Peggy), and Ernest Crawley (Judy). Danny is predeceased by one brother Samuel (Biddy) Crawley and four sisters Irene David, Gail Perkins, Jeanette Bailess and Janice Crawley. Danny loved fully and unconditionally and treasured the many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends he leaves behind. To know Danny was to know love. We were all better human beings just for having known him. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Chuck Schooler with interment to follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Friday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
