Dorothy May Eades Bruffy Chapman

Dorothy May Eades Bruffy Chapman, 88, of 4335 Gladys Road, Altavista died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in her home. She was twice married, first to the late John Alexander Bruffy and secondly to her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Charlie Robertson Chapman. She was born May 21, 1924 in Campbell County, a daughter of the late Jerry Morton Eades and Mary Dowdy Eades. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served with the Ladies Missionary Group. Mrs. Chapman was a foster parent for many years, former owner/operator of Bruffy’s Grocery and caregiver to her invalid sister. She enjoyed cooking, working with her flowers, church and her chickens. Her family was her pride and joy. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mary Robertson and her husband Jerry of Hurt, Annie Mae Clay and her husband Larry of Altavista, Jean Abernathy and her husband Randall of Shalotte, NC, and Linda Wilson of Asheboro, NC; an adopted daughter, Carolyn Hudson and her husband Junior of Lynchburg; two adopted sons, Glen Chapman of Raleigh, NC and Thomas Chapman of Rustburg; three brothers, Edward Eades and his wife Catherine of Gladys, Steven Eades and Jerry Eades both of Altavista; three sisters, Shirley Chapman, Joyce Bolen, and Laura Dudley and her husband Carleton all of Altavista; eight grandchildren, Bobby Clay and his wife Lucie of Hurt, Brian Dawson and his fiance’ Malissa of Long Island, Robert Dawson and his wife Bonnie of Altavista, Daryl Dawson and his friend Brandi of Altavista, Dean Millner, David Millner, Delores Miller and husband Robbie, and Mary Katherine Conway and husband Chris all of North Carolina; sixteen great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Eades. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Brumfield, Rev. Randolph Coffey and Rev. Brian Seay with interment to follow in Winfall Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
