Dorothy Barker Kerr

Dorothy Barker Kerr, 92, of 107 Marysville Rd., Altavista died March 17, 2025, at the home of her daughter. Dot was the devoted wife of the late Hebert "Hoover" Barker and, later, the late Carlton Kerr. She often spoke of how blessed she was to have experienced such love and companionship twice in her life, treasuring the memories she made with both of them. Born on April 19, 1932, in Campbell County, Dot was the daughter of the late Alexander Brown and Jeter Manuel Mitchell. After losing her father at a young age, she was lovingly raised by her stepfather, the late George Mitchell. A woman of resilience and faith, she was a devoted member of Lambs Community Church and a proud retiree of Timken. She faced life's challenges with grace, leaning on her steadfast belief in God. Dot had a generous heart, dedicating her time and love to her family, church, and community. Dot is lovingly survived by her daughter and caregiver, Vickie Barker Pedro and her husband, Mike, of Altavista, daughter Pam Viar of Gretna, and daughter-in-law Kathy Kerr, of Lynchburg; and her son, W.C. "Wimpy" Kerr and his wife, Juliet, of Rustburg. She also leaves behind three brothers, Ray Mitchell, Bill Mitchell, and Glenn Mitchell with his wife, Dale; and one sister, Ginny Bryant and her husband, Ron. Dot was a proud Granny Kerr to seven grandchildren: Heather Hudson (Tim), Josh Pribble (Amanda), Sherri Sicili (Randy), Crystal Reed (John), Nick Viar (Sarah), Jenny Sims (Steve), and Jessica Kerr. Her love extends even further to her fifteen beloved great-grandchildren: Addie, Miles, Liam, Aaron, Blake, Trey, Camden, Mikayla, Caleb, Adley, Sawyer Ann, Bodie, Lizzy, Luke, and Johnny. She was welcomed into eternity by her son, Dennis Kerr; four; sisters, Mary Cash, Lena Hannah, Joyce Hamlett, and Aneta "Sissy" Krantz; as well as her brothers, Jimmy Mitchell, Franklin Mitchell, and George "Doodle" Mitchell. She also endured the heartbreaking loss of her precious grandchildren, April Pribble, Heath Pribble, and great-grandson Wyatt Viar. Though deeply missed, there is comfort in knowing she is reunited with them, undoubtedly sharing stories and laughter once again. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2025, at Lambs Community Church by Pastor W.L. Pillow with interment to follow in the Barker Family Cemetery, Hurt. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Centra Hospice.
