Dwaine Reynolds DeLappe

Dwaine Reynolds DeLappe, 62, born September 12, 1962, in Lynchburg, went to accompany the Lord with his comical and fun-loving presence on July 29, 2025. Dwaine's journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, dedication, fishing, and so much fun. He never met a stranger, but when he did, you would end the day with a friend forever-and possibly a trip out on the boat to fish. With his impeccable work ethic, his possibilities were endless. Dwaine took great pride in everything he did. He was a heavily decorated truck driver, holding every credential and certification available. Recently, he was recognized for 1 million miles driven without incident and awarded a brand-new truck-an accomplishment that left him and his family gleaming with pride. Dwaine was, and forever will be, the baby boy to Charles R. DeLappe and Eugenia B. DeLappe Gammon, who predeceased him. He was also blessed with many years of love from his stepfather, Lonnie Ashby Gammon, who also predeceased him. Left pining for a few more memories are his wife, Sandra L. DeLappe; daughters, Shauna Wyatt (Corey) and Julie Carson (Jay); stepchildren, Hannah (Daelyn), Wesley (Lauren), Mark, and Derek Haskins. Dwaine was the adoring Papa to his many grandchildren-Layton, Layla, Bradley, LeAnn, DJ, Hailey, Kelei, David, Marco, Kaeden, Carter, Evie, Ryland, Ellowyn, and Cassian- one great-grandchild, Messiah- and one beloved fur-baby, Sophie. The ache of his absence will be felt by so many people, including his sisters, Deborah Gillespie (Mike) and Dana Hodges (Donnie); stepbrothers, Larry Gammon (Susan) and Tim Gammon (Rhonda); sisters-in-law, Patricia Kelly and Carol Lambert; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Lambert (Phyllis) and Mike Lambert (Molly); as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lifelong friend and hunting partner, Roger "Bonehead" Hull. On our dimmest days, we will look for the rays of sun he will shine down upon us, just as he did in his earthly life. Dwaine could lighten even the heaviest moments-most of the time with a slightly inappropriate joke. May we all feel his light, if only just a glimmer. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista, by Pastor W.L. Pillow and Pastor Maria Miller with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times at the residence.
