Eunice Tanner Bailey

Eunice Tanner Bailey, 95, of 2941 Red House Road, Rustburg peacefully joined her Heavenly Father, late husband of fifty-four years, O.T. "Taylor" Bailey, Jr. and many family, friends and loved ones on Thursday, April 18, 2013. She was the daughter of the late William Thomas Tanner and Lizzie Smith Tanner. Eunice is survived by five children, Faye B. Mathews, husband Clyde, Shelby B. Overstreet, O.T. Baliey, III, wife Brenda, Barry Wayne Bailey and Vanessa Bailey Staton all of Rustburg; four grandchildren, Renee O. Christoph, husband Otto, Tami O. Parrish, husband Jon, Walter Taylor Bailey and Derek Garrett; two brothers, Lester W. Tanner, wife Jean, and Louis M. Tanner, wife Patricia; five sisters, Catherine Younger, Rachel Dawson, husband Kenneth, Alice Bailey, husband Morris, Marie Hodge, husband Mac and Barbara Farmer, husband Stephen; a sister-in-law, Delia Tanner and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by two son-in-laws, Sherman Overstreet and Billy Joe Garrett, and brothers and sisters, Otis, Paul, Pete, Pauline, Robert, Thomas and David Tanner, Christine Jordan, Anna Coleman and Elizabeth Tucker. Eunice retired in June 1980 after teaching in the Campbell County School System for 42 years. She fondly treasured the memories of her teaching career and her students. She touched the lives of all who were blessed to know her. Her family is truly thankful for the privilege and blessing of caring for her in her own home with the help of her compassionate caregiver, Cil Tweedy. Also thanks to the staff at CVFP Stephen L. Thompson Medical Center, Gentle Shephard Hospice, Amedisys Home Health Care and Lincare for providing professional care and services. Eunice was dedicated to God, family and friends, always putting others before self. She will be greatly missed. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church until her declining health prevented her from attending. A celebration of Eunice's life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack Barrett. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
