Floyd Richard Daniel

Floyd Richard Daniel, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015. He was born February 9, 1925 in Bedford County and was the son of the late Thomas Griffin and Lula Witt Daniel. Floyd worked at Burlington Industries in Altavista for 34 years and retired from Mutual Industries in Pennsylvania. He was a member of Hurt United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He moved his membership to White's United Methodist church in 2007 when he and Mildred moved to their current address. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in World War II from 1943 to 1946. While serving in the 567th AAA Battalion, he was stationed overseas in England, Belgium, Switzerland and France. While in England, he met up with his brother, Howard and then again in France after the war was over. Floyd was an avid reader, loved to fish, hunt, and was a beekeeper for many years. He was an honorary member of Grit Ruritan Club having served as president three times. He received The Tom Downing Fellow Award in appreciation of unselfish personal effort. He was also a member of the Mason's Campbell Lodge 316. He is survived by and was married for 66 years to Mildred Smallwood Daniel. He and Mildred raised their family at 161 Covington Drive, Hurt, VA. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Janet and Eddie East and Jane and Phillip Clay, one son and his wife, Richard T. and Andrea Daniel. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer Farris, Jonathan and wife Tasha East, Apryl East and fiancÃ© Ryan Hunley, Robert Clay and significant other Cheryl Huppert, Deborah Clay and fiancÃ© Clayson Brimijoin; four great grandchildren; Dillon and Jaden Farris, Nathen Wilson and Kadan East. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Gerald W., Willie L., Herbert O., and O. Howard, two sisters; Lorice Greenway and Arlene "Teny" Agner. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at Finch and Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Jack Davis with entombment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
