Giles Buckner Thruston

On January 24th , 2013, Giles Buckner Thruston, of Motley has been set free of his sickness and is now enjoying eternal health and happiness in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Giles was born February 1st, 1925 in Gloucester, Va to Caroline and Robert Reade Thruston, Sr. Giles was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Susie David Thruston, three brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by three children; Ruth Ferrell and husband Billy of Hurt, Giles (Andy) Thruston and wife Denise of Huddleston, Claudia St. John and husband Roy of Motley; a special friend who was like another son, Roy and wife Vicky; seven grandchildren, Joey and wife Angie, Lisa and fiancé Alan, Beth and husband Thomas, Stacey and husband Phil, Nick and wife Christen, Emily, Jessica and husband Daniel; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Troll of Blackstone; and numerous nieces and nephews. Giles was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and strove to make sure that his family knew of the love of Jesus Christ. The community remembers Giles as the “G”of G&S Market of Hurt and Motley. He and his wife Susie were known not just as proprietors of a store but as a couple who cared about their friends and customers. The family would like to give a special thanks to his neighbors, Wayne and Jeri Dowdy, Doris Nelms, and Garland and Phyllis Towler. After the death of his wife, his neighbors were the extra eyes and ears of his family, ensuring that “all was ok” at his house. His last few years were made better due to his wonderful caregivers, Alice, Betty, Cori Jo, Emma, Jeanette and especially his granddaughters Beth and Lisa who were always there for him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Gretna Health & Rehab Facility for all their devotion to keeping our Father comfortable and cared for. His funeral will be conducted on Sunday, January 27th, 3:00pm at New Prospect Baptist Church in Hurt by the Reverend Brady Willis and Dr. Joey Anthony. The family will be sharing stories with his friends and family at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service in Altavista on Saturday, January 26th from 4 to 6 pm and other times at the home of Billy and Ruth Ferrell.
