Gordon A. Reed

Gordon A. Reed, 85, of Hurt, VA passed away peacefully June 30, 2024, with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Barbara Hausman Reed. He was born May 19, 1939 in Hightstown, NJ, a son of the late George & Voilet (Cornell) Reed, where he lived, raised his family, worked as a teamsters truck driver for over 30 years, and Volunteer Firefighter/Life Member for 50 years of the Hightstown Engine Co #1, before retiring to Hurt, Virginia 27 years ago. Gordon was a true family man, passionate about helping others and the fire service. He also had a love for antique cars, car shows & Cruise in's, and his prize possession a 1950 Dodge pickup. His favorite pastime was playing cards with his buddies and family. He was a member of the Teamster Union 701 Trucking Co, 641 Teamsters Trucking Union, past honorary member of the American Legion Post 148 East Windsor NJ, past associate member of the VFW post 5700 East Windsor, NJ, Life Member of the Hightstown Engine Co. #1 where he held many officer positions, and was the engineer for his favorite truck 1914 American Lafrance Ladder truck, which he loved to show off in parades. He was a past member of the Motley Community Ruritan Club, where he was Ruritan of the Year in 2002. He was a member of the Motley Community Church and cherished his "Church Family" very much. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Young and her husband, Paul, of Hurt, VA formerly Williston, Vermont; a son, Michael Reed and his life partner Densie Olmo of Hurt; sisters Agnes Beatty of Rockford IL, Edith Staples of Tucson AZ, brothers Donald Reed & his wife Donna of Hightstown NJ, William Reed of Lithia Springs GA. Sisters in law Joyce Reed Colorado Springs, CO, and Sandra Arrington of Gretna, VA, and many nieces and nephews across the country. He is preceded in death by Sister, Rose Patterson, Brothers, Walter Reed and John Reed, Brothers-in-law, Jacob "Jake" Hausman, Ronald Staples, Milton Patterson, David Beatty, and Sisters-in-law, Jane Reed. The Funeral will be held at the Motley Community Global Methodist Church Shula Dr. Hurt, VA on Monday July 8, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. by Paster Stan Mulford, friends may call and visit the family at the church from 2pm to 3pm on the same day with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
