Marvin Jefferson

Marvin Ortwin Jefferson, Sr., 92, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Naomi Campbell Jefferson for sixty-seven years.Ortwin was born June 5, 1920, in Campbell County, a son of the late Walter Griffin Jefferson and Ruby Moon Jefferson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Jean Bishel, Daddyâ??s little girl; his brother, Elmer Jefferson and wife Doris, and brother-in-law, Fred Brown.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Marvin O. Jefferson, Jr. (Caren) of Madison Heights and C.W. Jefferson (Robin) of Lynchburg; granddaughters, Julie Brown (Ethan), Andrea Geiger (Mike), Marie Bishel and Jason, and Michelle Campbell (Allen); four great-grandchildren, Alex, Matthew, Timothy and Lily; two sisters, Christine Brown of Lynchburg and Vernelle Fisher (Thomas) of Rustburg and a brother, Glen Jefferson (Shirley) of Rustburg; sister-in-law, Helen Hunter of Lynchburg and numerous nieces and nephews.Ortwin graduated from Gladys High School and served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He sold insurance for Life and Casualty Company, sold Jewel Tea products and retired from the American General Life Insurance Company. He then worked for Finch & Finch, Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service in Gladys until he was well into his mid-80â??s of age. Ortwin enjoyed a beautiful garden and loved to share his crops with friends and family. He had trouble passing a yard sale and loved selling at flea markets. He was a devoted member of the singing group, Good Timers and loved to perform.Daddy had a quick and easy grin, a twinkle in his eye, knew everybody and never met a stranger, at least after he talked to them for a while. He loved to talk to people.The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Centra Health for their devotion and service and a special thanks to the staff of the UVA Dialysis Center in Amherst for adopting and caring for our father.A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Kedron Baptist Church, Gladys by the Rev. Charles Anderson and Rev. Daryl Webster with interment to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012 at Finch & Finch Funeral, Inc. and Cremation Service, Gladys and other times at the residence.The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Winfall Baptist Church, c/o Donna Klein, Treasurer, 2076 Pigeon Run Road, Gladys, VA 24554.
