Mary Anne Oakes Weeks

Mary Anne Oakes Weeks, 88, of Altavista died Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was the wife of the late John Hurt Weeks Jr. She was born February 25, 1937 in Altavista, a daughter of the late Marvin R. "Jack" Oakes and Shirley Holland Oakes. She was a member of Hurt United Methodist Church, a retired School Board Member of Campbell County Schools, and Hurt Elementary School. Mary was a devoted member of Hurt United Methodist Church UMW, served faithfully on the Lynchburg District UMW and the Second Helping committee in Altavista, was a former board member of Habitat for Humanity in Altavista, and found joy in cooking, gardening, and cherishing the loves of her life-her husband, children, and grandchildren. She is survived by three sons, John H. "Johnny" Weeks and his husband, James Gray of Richmond, Marty L. Weeks of Staunton and Stanley D. Weeks and his wife, Vickie of Blairs; one daughter, Renea Weeks Poff and her husband, Ray of Stafford; one sister in law, Merle Oakes of Bedford; one brother, M. Wayne Oakes and his wife, Nancy of Fuquay-Varina, NC; six grandchildren, Abigail Evans and her husband, Logan, Kristina Poff and her fiancé, Ben Forgas, Logan Poff, Stephanie Snyder and her husband, Dave, Eric Williamson and fiancé, Christy Ferguson, and Brian Williamson; five great grandchildren, Colby Evans, Erica Williamson, Tyler Williamson, Victoria Gregory and Julia Gregory; two great great grandchildren, Paisley and Delilah Cole; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Oakes Catron, and a brother, Roger K. Oakes. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff at Autumn Care of Altavista for the compassionate care and support they provided. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2025 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. David Bayse with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
