Mildred Smallwood Daniel

Mildred Smallwood Daniel, born on March 10, 1929, in Huddleston, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025 peacefully surrounded by love and memories. She was 96 years old. Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Floyd Richard Daniel and was preceded in death by her parents, Glen Smallwood and Deborah Wright Smallwood. Mildred was a member of Whites United Methodist Church and a retired supervisor of Vista Apparel. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her family: daughters, Janet East (Eddie) of Rustburg, Jane Clay (Phillip) of Appomattox; son, Rick Daniel (Andrea) of Forest; along with five grandchildren, Jennifer Farris, Jonathan East, Apryl Hunley (Janet), Robert Clay and Deborah Brimijoin (Jane); and many cherished great, and great greatgrandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sixteen siblings; Oreta Smallwood Howell, Moorman Smallwood, Cedola Smallwood Dunkle, Margaret Smallwood Burnette, Raymond Smallwood, Marie Smallwood Ewing, Helen Smallwood Radford, Harry Smallwood, Garland Smallwood, Vivian Smallwood, A J Smallwood, Berry Smallwood, Frances Smallwood Rumpf, Arlene "Tootie" Smallwood Carter, Jack Smallwood and Edith Smallwood Witt. A woman of quiet faith, Mildred was an active member of her church for as long as her health allowed. She lived her life with creativity and grace, finding joy in the simple beauty of handmade things. Her artistic spirit shone through her many talents-basket making, sewing, painting, and crafting. She also had a deep love for flower gardening, taking great pride in the beauty she nurtured around her home. A graveside service to honor Mildred's life will be held at Altavista Memorial Park Mausoleum at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2025. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation, however she will be available at the funeral home for anyone who wishes to come and pay their respects prior to the graveside service. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Liberty Ridge Health and Rehabilitation and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Mildred will be remembered for her deep love of family, her creative soul, her green thumb, and her unwavering faith. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
