Noel Parker

Noel (Thomas) Parker, 76, of 14987 Wards Road, Lynchburg died Saturday, December 11, 2010 in his home. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Doss Parker. He was born March 25, 1934 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Edward Noel Parker and Matilda Frances Callahan Parker. He attended Salem United Methodist Church, was Vice President and Director of Evington Ruritan Club, a retired truck driver with Hemingway Transport and Yeatts Transfer and a U. S. Army Veteran. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother, Wilbur Parker and his wife Sandra of Nathalie; two sisters, Ella Ruth Davidson and her husband Les and Matilda June Colbert and her husband Paul, all of Lynchburg; one brother-in-law, Herbert Doss and his wife Anne; three sisters-in-law, Ida Compton and her husband Robert, Betty Doss, and Marie Reynolds and her friend Harold Ramsey; a very special aunt, Lucy Pribble of Evington; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Caroll Parker. As a child, Thomas grew up helping his parents raise tobacco in Pittsylvania County. After the family moved to Lynchburg, Thomas went to work as a truck driver while still in his teens. He drove around forty years for Brooks Transportation, Hemingway and retired from Yeatts Transfer in Altavista. After retirement, Thomas cared for his mother in her declining years and also for his brother Caroll. When he was a young man of seventy one, Thomas met and soon married the Love of his Life, Dorothy Doss. Whether it was making preserves or attending ruritan club meetings, Dorothy was always by his side. They did everything together and enjoyed each other's company tremendously. Thomas and Dorothy proved to the world that you don't have to be a youngster to have a great Love Story. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Schooler with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence of Marie Reynolds, 1637 Dearborn Road, Evington.
