Pat Pennington Farmer

Patricia Pennington Farmer of Altavista, Virginia died on November 11, 2014 after a brief illness. Born January 14, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Hazel Painter Pennington and George Edward Pennington. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William O. "Freck" Farmer, and three brothers, James, Robert and Edward. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Leslie Hoover, and her husband Larry of Altavista. She is also survived by her cherished granddaughter, Ashley Hoover Bowling and her husband, Josh of Lynchburg and by her cherished grandson, Adam Hoover and his girlfriend Bonnie Roderique also of Lynchburg. She is also survived by her sister in law Nancy Roark and cousin, Judy Carson Evans. Judy and Pat always felt as though they were truly sisters. Pat graduated from Altavista High School at the age of 16 and attended Phillips Business College in Richmond, Virginia. After her marriage to Freck in 1953, she joined him during his tour of duty with the U.S. Army while he was stationed in France. Pat worked for many years in customer service with the Lane Company in Altavista. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a volunteer with Avoca, the Altavista Bloodmobile, and the Board of Elections. Pat served on the board of DAWN for many years and was a strong advocate for providing services to needy families in the Altavista area. Pat will be profoundly missed by her family and dear friend and neighbor Dolores Drumheller, and neighbors Sarah and Swanson Adkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 14, 2014 at Finch and Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Dr. Michael Lee with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence of her daughter, Leslie Hoover, 112 Chimney Ridge Court, Altavista.
