Webb Ferlow Henderson, Jr.

Webb Ferlow Henderson, Jr., of Lynch Station, Virginia passed peacefully at his residence on Sunday, May 18, 2014, surrounded by friends and family. Webb was born November 3, 1943, in Maybeury, West Virginia, to Webb F. Henderson, Sr., and Margaret Anderson Henderson. He was raised in a loving family of ten children and lived in coal mining towns until their Dad was hurt in the mines and he purchased a small farm in Sandstone, West Virginia. After graduating from high school, Webb followed his older brother, Don, to Altavista where he worked at Burlington Industries and later Babcock and Wilcox. He then became a General Contractor and Developer for the next 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Doug Henderson, and father-in-law, Walter Woodall. Webb is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 50 years, Joyce Woodall Henderson, and his family, daughter Marlo Delene Henderson, Altavista; son Franklin Jarrod Henderson, Altavista; granddaughter Hilary Yeatts and husband William, and great-granddaughter Bayleigh Ava, Hurt. He is also survived by brothers Don (Barbara) of Altavista, Roger (Loretta) of Charlottesville, Bill (Barbara) of Evington, Larry (Bea), of Sanford, North Carolina, Rick (Billie), of Buffalo, South Carolina, Gerry (Lois) of Lerona, West Virginia, and sisters Betty (H.F. Cooper) of Hinton, West Virginia, and Linda (David Grimett) of Waynesboro, and sister-in-law Carolyn Henderson, Altavista. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Bettie Woodall of Altavista, sister-in-law Geraleanne Woodall of Lynchburg, and sister-in-law Carol (Bob Dodson) of Forest. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews he dearly loved. Webb was a member of Central Baptist Church and was an active deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Lynch Station Ruritan Club, The Scottish Rite, and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Campbell Lodge #316. While his children were attending Altavista High School, he was active in the Band Boosters. Webb enjoyed watching NASCAR, going to Virginia Tech football games, and spending time with his friends and family. The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence. The family wishes to thank everyone that has been part of Webb's journey during the last few years of his life. All of the prayers were certainly appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 11 AM at Finch and Finch Chapel, Altavista by Rev. Rick Henderson, Rev. Larry Henderson, Rev. Jesse Garmon and Bob Dodson with interment to follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Altavista. Masonic rites will be conducted by Campbell Lodge 316 A.F. and A.M. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider American Cancer Society in honor of William's Dream Team, 2050 Langhorne Road, Suite 201, Lynchburg, VA 24501. Webb's grandson-in-law, William, is a cancer survivor from childhood leukemia.
