Ava Watson Dawson

March 17, 1937 - May 11, 2019

Ava Watson Dawson, 82, of 155 Triple R Farm Road, Hurt departed this life Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was the wife of the late Albert Calvin Dawson for over 60 years. She was born March 17, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, a daughter of the late Edward Purcell Watson and Wilmouth Irby Watson. She was a member of St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired from General Electric with thirty-six years of service. She loved her family deeply and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Ava loved music, cooking and vacations in Pigeon Forge, TN. Anyone who entered the doors of her home would enjoy being spoiled. She passed peacefully and was surrounded by her family. She is survived by three sons, Keith Dawson and his wife Robbin of Lynchburg, Wendell Dawson and his wife Stephanie of Gretna, and Twyman Dawson of Hurt; one daughter, Karen Bowling and her husband Tony of Gretna; one brother, Alvis Watson and his wife Jean of Hurt; five sisters, Phyllis LaBrie of Lynchburg, Jane Falls of Appomattox, Cecil Smith of Gretna, Mabel Cross of SC, and Betty Wilborn of Rustburg; two grandchildren, Lauren Keesee and her husband Mark of Altavista and Brent Dawson and his wife, Courtney of Gretna; one great grandchild, Mak Keesee, along with many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Watson, and a sister, Fannie Newton. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Tim Lane officiating. Interment will follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church, 6658 Dews Road, Hurt, VA 24563 or Gideon's International, Altavista Camp, P.O. Box 193, Altavista, VA 24517. Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista is in charge of arrangements.
