Charles Edward Eubanks

August 28, 1939 - February 14, 2022

Charles Edward Eubanks, 82, of Altavista passed away February 14th, 2022, surrounded by his family at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Elizabeth Duvall Eubanks of Cheraw, SC. He is survived by Linda Hern Eubanks of Staunton VA, his loving wife of 25 years in the town of Altavista. He was born in 1939 in Lyman, SC, a son of the late Eurell Eubanks and Bannie Mae Sexton Eubanks. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Eubanks Osborne (Thomas) of Lexington, NC, and Mary Eubanks Papadopulos (Stephan) of Bethesda, MD; one son, Jeremy Smither (Deborah) of Chattanooga, TN; a brother, Kenneth Eubanks (Nancy) of Lyman, SC; three grandchildren, Katherine, Julia, and Phillip Papadopulos; and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. He was a devoted member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church serving as Senior Warden and Vestry member for many years, a manager with Burlington Industries for 38 years, a former member of the Altavista Town Council and a U.S. Army Veteran. For over 50 years he enjoyed annual fishing trips with his brothers to Santee Cooper, SC. Charles was an expert gardener of flowers and vegetables which he loved to give to his friends. He was an avid golfer, and his cooking skills were well known and enjoyed by all. He excelled at woodworking and made many pieces of furniture for his family. Charles was a proud graduate of Clemson University and pitched on the 1959 baseball team that played in the College World Series. He remained an ardent Clemson fan his whole life, as evidenced by his wardrobe of orange and his dog, Dabo. Charles was a reliable neighbor, a true gentleman, and a loyal friend to anyone lucky enough to call him the same. A celebration of life will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022. The family requests that all who attend wear masks. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 25th at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
