Herbert Jackson Dawson, Jr., 70, of 21 Crocetti Lane, Lynchburg died Monday, April 22, 2019 at The Elms of Lynchburg after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was the life partner of eleven years to Janice Brown. He was born May 23, 1948 in Altavista, a son of the late Herbert Jackson Dawson, Sr. and Idell Dawson. He was a retired supervisor for BWXT, a US Army Veteran and a wounded warrior that was awarded the Purple Heart. Herbert enjoyed golfing and watching the University of Virginia and the Dallas Cowboys play. In addition to his life partner, he is survived by extended family, Terry Brown and his wife, Heather and their children, Brendon, Landon and Camden Brown all of Hurt, Stacy Wade and her children, Devin and Bragan Wade all of Altavista, Brooke Pickeral and her husband, Burt of Gretna; a special cousin Judy Moon; and golf buddy's, Donnie Creasy and J.T. Adams. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Altavista Memorial Park by the Rev. Bobby Brumfield with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista is in charge of arrangements.
