Lewis Needham Winston

December 29, 1933 - March 9, 2022

Lewis Needham Winston, 88, of 80 Marysville Road, Altavista died Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at his home. He was the husband of Evelyn Guernsey Winston for forty-five years. He was born December 29, 1933 in Campbell County, a son of the late John William Winston and Alice DePriest Winston. He was a member of Lambs United Methodist Church and Amazing Grace Pentecostal Holiness Church, a former member of the Castle Craig Ruritan Club, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and the Owner/Operator of L&E Trucking. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Randy Lewis Winston and his wife, Teresa of Amherst and Keith William Winston and his wife, Tina of Altavista; four daughters, Cynthia Winston Reynolds of Lynchburg, Rayna Elliott and her husband, Rodney, Belinda Gowen, and Kathie Winston Gowen and her husband, John all of Altavista; twelve grandchildren, Jeremy Winston and his wife, Sarah, Rodney Winston and his wife, Jessie, Karli Winston, Courtney Winston, Montana Elliott, Maegan Elliott, Brooke Hedrick and her husband, Travis, Jessica Holdren, Jacob "Noodle" Gowen, Kadan Gowen, Heather Hudson, and Crystal Francis; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Dalton and Gerry Craig; and a grandson, Justin Keith Winston. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 14, 2022 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Bill Evans with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Sunday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36, PO Box 153, Altavista, VA 24517. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Centra Hospice, especially Rebekah Kerr.
