Mary Elizabeth Dillard Farmer Arthur

In the early hours of April 23, 2019, God's faithful servant, Mary Elizabeth went to heaven. If she knew you, she loved you, prayed for you, and probably tried to feed you. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Hurt Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired from Burlington Industries. Mary Elizabeth was born December 14, 1923, in Pittsylvania County to Americus Anna Dillard and Annie Elizabeth Clay Dillard. Twice married, she was predeceased by her husband and father of their children, Luther Irvin Farmer and then Roystain Merriman Arthur, Jr. She was predeceased by daughter, Nancy Farmer Andrews; son-in-law, Buddie Bray; step-son, Joe Arthur; brothers, Carroll, Jim, Joe, Junior, and Mervin; and sisters, Katherine, Lorene, Betty, Ruby, and Lucy. Mary Elizabeth is survived by a son, Steve Farmer (Sandra); daughters, Gaye Bray, Judy Williamson (Brady), Mary Pickrel (Mike); son-in-law, Herman Andrews (Terecia); grandchildren, Teresa Wyatt (Barry), Andrea Thompson (David), Steven Farmer, Jr. (Samantha), Angela LaFon, Allen Williamson (Sarah), Jason Andrews (Jessica); great grandchildren, Jacob Wyatt (Maria), Meghan Pingilley (Jonathan), Jackson, Luke, and Anna Thompson, Brady and Lee LaFon, Steven III, Coleman, and Rosser Farmer, Harper and Samuel Williamson, Rebecca, Emily, Marie, and Noah Andrews; great-great grandchildren, Eli and Charlee Pingilley, and Luca Wyatt; brother-in-law, Ralph Farmer (Linda); sisters-in-law, Doris Dillard, Geraldine Dillard, Cecile Farmer, and Stella Finch; step-daughter-in-law, Shelvia Arthur and family; step-son, Stephen Arthur and family; and devoted friends, Monroe and Lanie Coffer. Mary Elizabeth's children extend heart felt gratitude to all family, friends, and caregivers for all the love, care, and acts of kindness shown our beloved Mother. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 at Hurt Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1212 Grit Road, Hurt with Pastor Mark Hopkins, Rev. Sam Knaus, and Rev. Jason Andrews. The service will conclude at Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence, 2472 Grit Road, Hurt, VA.
