Ronald Lee Childress Sr.

October 28, 1934 - May 14, 2020

Ronald Lee Childress, Sr., 85, of 810 Old Pocket Road, Lynch Station died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Sylvia Jeansonne Childress for 63 years. He was born October 28, 1934 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Henry Lucian Childress and Vertie Laura Shelton Childress. He was a member of Mount Hermon United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Burlington Industries. Ronald was a past member of the Blueridge River Runners, and enjoyed to bike, camp and canoe. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Ronald Lee Childress, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn of South Carolina; two daughters, September Childress Craig and her husband, Mike of Aiken, South Carolina and Cheryl Childress Sale and her husband, Mike of Rockville; one brother, Donald Dee Childress and his wife, Evelyn of Lynch Station; and seven grandchildren, Michael Craig, Jr., Alan Craig and his wife, Shelby, Nick Sale, Laura Sale, Haley Sale, Luke Sale and Maddy Sale. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Childress, Jr. and Rudolph Childress; and two sisters, Edna Brownlow and Louis Williams. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Dawn Compton. For those wishing to view Ron, viewing will be available from 12:00 until 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. For the protection of your health, proper health precautions and social distancing will be practiced. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, 171 Mount Hermon Road, Lynch Station, VA 24571. Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista is in charge of arrangements.
