May 7, 1925 - January 17, 2021
Verna Crews Goodman, 95 of Gladys passed away January 17, 2021. Born May 7, 1925 to John Thomas Crews and Louella Francis Crews, she was the oldest of 4. She is survived by son Rick ( Sharon ) of Cary, NC, daughters Vicki Pick ( Gary ) and Denise Speas of Lynchburg and Stefanie Morgan ( Sam ) of Concord. Grandchildren Sam Terry (Laura Beth) and Rick Terry of Nathalie, Melinda Terry and Becky Reynolds (Justin) of Gladys, Max Goodman and Rachel Goodman of North Carolina and Zack Morgan of Concord. Great grandchildren Tori Terry of Gladys, Greysen, Montana and Brady Terry of Nathalie and Seth and Adley Reynolds of Gladys, and brother Bobby ( Sue ) Crews of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 70 years George, sisters Earle Canada and Margaret Baily and brother-in-law WV Bailey. Mom was a member of Falling River Baptist Church. She was baptized at a young age in Falling River. Mom loved her Lord and Savior and it showed in how she conducted her life, and in the things she said and did. Mom graduated from Virginia Commercial Business School and worked for various companies in secretarial positions, retiring from Triangle Ford Sales, Inc. in Brookneal. Mom loved her family dearly. She enjoyed the many picnics spent with kids and grandkids along the Parkway as well as many family gatherings. She enjoyed vacations at the beach with dear friends Bob and Kathleen Boswell as well as many times spent at Otter Creek Restaurant, Famous Anthony's, Hardees and Walmart. Mom enjoyed people, seeming to have never met a stranger. She was the person who lit up the room with her smile when she entered. As much as she loved her family, Mom loved Dad and loved the life they shared. They traveled many places, and it was rare to find them at home after retirement. They traveled well into their eighties and loved every minute of it. Mom battled vascular dementia for many years and was able to remain at home a long time due to Dad caring for her and caregivers who became part of the family along the way. Our deepest gratitude goes to all of them who helped them along the way with special thanks given to Ruth, Sharon, Stephanie, Delores and Georgia. The family also wishes to thank the staff and administration at The Summit Health and Rehab Facility for their kindness and concern during Mom's stay. During the last several months, Mom gained a new "angel"- Wanda Romero, who helped with Facetime meetings when no one was allowed in the facility. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 at Finch and Finch Chapel, Altavista by Chris Brooks with interment to follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends starting at 12:30 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 at Finch and Finch, Altavista and other times at the residence of Stefanie and Sam Morgan in Concord. In lieu of flowers please consider the following charities: Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., 17th Fl.
