Barbara Simmons Reynolds

Barbara Simmons Reynolds, 74, of 2321 Tardy Mountain Road, Altavista died Monday, March 25, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of the late David Harvey Reynolds. She was born June 8, 1938 in Covington, a daughter of the late James Caperton Simmons and Mattie Hubbard Simmons. She attended Chestnut Hill Baptist Church and for many years served as a preschool teacher at the Altavista Area Family YMCA where she considered all of her students as "her" children. She is survived by five children, Donna Reynolds and her son, Christian Dzadek; D.A. Reynolds and his wife Cindy and their children, April, Jakki, Crystal, and Heather; Donald Reynolds and his wife Teresa and their daughters, Savannah and Liza; Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Billy and their children, Cindy, Berkley, Coleman, and Ashley; and Mary Beth Laney and her husband Jim and their daughters, Brooklyn and Lily; five great granddaughters, Journey, River, Carly, Zoe, and Trinity; a very special sister, Betty Lou Rapp; a brother-in-law, Dennis Reynolds and his wife Lois; a brother-in-law, Charles Myers and his wife Hettie; numerous devoted nieces and nephews; and her faithful canine companion, Lady. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Charles Simmons; and two sisters, Mary Jane Smith and Ruth Callahan. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Finch and Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Randy Bower with interment to follow in Mount Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Sunshine Scatterers Sunday School class at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church for their cards, visits, and prayers, Dr. Ehtesham and Dr. Kothopally at Lynchburg Nephrology, the staff at Staunton River Family Physicians, the staff at Autumn Care of Altavista, the staff at Guggenheimer Health and Rehabilitation in Lynchburg, and the staff of Centra Hospice of the Hills for their recent care.
