Betty Jean Anthony Finch

Betty Jean Anthony Finch passed away August 21, 2022 at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by family. She was born September 23, 1946 to Reba Bailess Anthony and Paul Edwin Anthony, Jr of Altavista, VA. As a young girl, she attended St John Church in Grit with her grandmother Audrey Bailess. It was here that she met Julian Page Finch. The couple married on April 17, 1964 and moved to his family's farm on Dews Road where they would spend 58 years together. Betty grew up in Altavista and was the second of four daughters. She was a people person and loved spending time with family. She was a homemaker and mother to daughter Melinda in the early years of her marriage. After her son Kenneth was born, she started working as a substitute teacher at John L. Hurt, Jr Elementary School. She eventually joined Burlington Industries as a customer service representative. She was a working mother when daughter Karen was born. Betty left Burlington after 15 years and became a bank teller with Central Fidelity. She went back to school to earn her license to sell investments and rose to Assistant Branch Manager for Wachovia in Altavista. She really enjoyed working with her clients. Betty and Page attended St John Church throughout their lives and volunteered especially in their retirement years. Betty was active in her children's activities. She led a Girl Scout Troop, taught Sunday School, attended PTA meetings, band concerts, and numerous sporting events. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren. She had a great eye for fashion and absolutely loved the Christmas season. Her smile and enthusiasm will be missed by all who knew her. Betty was preceded in death by a sister Kitty Sue Anthony. She is survived by her husband Page and two sisters, Paulette Anthony Payne of Hartsville, SC, and Judith Anthony Brumfield of Gretna, VA. She is survived by her children Melinda Finch Cagle of Williamsburg, VA, Kenneth P. Finch (Lynne) of Fort Mill, SC, and Karen Finch Kelly (James) of Crozet, VA. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Samantha Cagle, Lauren Finch, Catherine Finch, and Madison Kelly and a grandson, Ryan Kelly. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022 at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church, Hurt by the Rev. Tim Lane with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.
