Granny BettGranny Bett began her quilt of life on April 23, 1926 and finished the last stitch on June 25, 2010. She went to be with her husband, Jesse William Moon and her beloved son, Leslie William Moon. She is also having a reunion with her parents, Leonard Wood Dickerson and Mary Austin Dickerson. There are many family members at this reunion, her sisters, Mary Rowles, Evelyn Dunaway, Louise Austin and her brother Carroll Dickerson. The quilt of life has many pieces. Many that have passed away and many that are left behind to cherish their memories of Granny Bett. I know that as her daughter in law for 43 years, I have been the most blessed because I know that she always loved me unconditionally. I was the daughter that she never had. Her two grandchildren, Kelly Moon Waller and Jason Edward Moon will always remember the times they spent with Granny Bett and all of the life lessons they learned from her. Kelly?s husband, Eddie and Jason?s wife, Nicole have also been blessed to have Granny Bett in their lives. Granny Bett loved to garden with Eddie and she planted many flowers at Nicole?s house that she will be able to enjoy for years to come. Then, there are more pieces to this family quilt. There is Ethan Waller, Kelly and Eddie?s son and Kaela and Jesse Moon, Jason and Nicole?s children. These cherished great-grandchildren will always remember their Granny Bett for her cooking good things to eat, playing with them, and most of all they all know how much she loved them.Other quilt pieces include her brothers, Woody Dickerson and Dave Dickerson and her sisters, Grace Kidd, Nell Dalton and Sue Tucker. These siblings will always have treasured memories of their sister, Bett. Our lives lead us many places and offer many pieces for our life quilt. The staff at Autumn Care has been an extended part of our family quilt since 2003. Granny Bett kept them laughing when she could and when she couldn?t any longer, they still loved coming by her room and telling her that they loved her. I was truly blessed to know that they were loving and caring for her when Leslie and I could not.In case you didn?t figure it out by now, Granny Bett loved to quilt. She made us all some of the most beautiful quilts. We will cherish these and when we wrap up in them we will feel her loving arms around us forever because each stitch was made with the utmost love.This beloved leader of our family will be placed to rest at Edge Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, June 27, 2010 where she loved helping in the kitchen and with the WMU. This celebration of her life will be at 3:00 PM. Her family will be at the home of her daughter in law, Judy Lewis Moon at 3129 Moons Road, Long Island, VA. We will be remembering our most cherished times with Granny Bett and invite anyone who would like to share their memories to come by.
