Harry Melvin Bruce

Harry Melvin Bruce, 93, of 2701 Grit Road, Hurt passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mozelle Farmer Bruce for over seventy-one years. He was born November 1, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, a son of the late Grover Cleveland Bruce and Ola Walker Bruce. Harry attended St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church, was a self-employed painter, he started the Three Generations Floor Sanding business and was a retired employee of Virginia Baptist Hospital in the Maintenance Department. He enjoyed working with show horses and was a former West Virginia State Champion in the Roadster Division of show horses. His favorite past time was spending time with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Melvin Rogers Bruce and his fiance', Karen George of Hurt; a daughter, Nancye Bruce Pritchard and her husband Harold of Hurt; seven grandchildren, Wally Bruce (Kim), Chris Bruce (Lara), Tony Moon (Stephanie), Kim McFaden (Chris), Matthew Pritchard (Carrington), Meghan Durrett ( Austin) and Nikole Mason; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother, Carlton Bruce and his wife Lelia of Hurt and a former daughter in law, Wendy Bruce of Hurt. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Thomas "Tommy" Bruce; three brothers, W.C., Bennett and Rev. Robert Bruce; two sisters, Arline Barbour and Louise Dalton and two great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Finch and Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Tim Lane, Rev. Myron Bruce and Rev. Jim Critchley with interment to follow in the Bruce Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
