James Gilliam Reynolds

James "Jimmy" Gilliam Reynolds, 77, of Bear Creek Road, Rustburg, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Virginia Baptist Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born February 21, 1937 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James C. and Emma D. Reynolds. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice R. Evans and a special son in law, Michael E. Cantrell. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty K. Reynolds and faithful daughters Sharon R. Cantrell and Tina R. Moon (Tommy) of Rustburg. He also leaves behind two special grandchildren ; Jessi Moon Roman (Stephen) of Rustburg and Jamie Moon (Hannah Guthrie) of Halifax; two beloved great-grandchildren, Autumn (Scooter) Roman and Jase (Lil' Man) Moon; two sisters, Dorothy R. Turner (Arthur) of Rustburg and Nancy Alderson of Mt. Sidney and a number of nieces and nephews. Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked with his hands and was a carpenter by trade. He loved spending his time outside, down by the creek and in the mountains. He was an avid hunter and NASCAR fan. He was a self-taught guitar, dobro and harmonica player. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all grew up enjoying the music "Pop" made. He loved to garden and took care of the family horses. Special thanks go out to his faithful family, friends, visitors and helpers during the past six months, Stephen Roman, Jamie Moon, Tommy Moon, Clinton Evans, Marvis Trent, Artie Baber, Kyle Moses, Mickey Cheatham, Levi Perdue, Oliver Jackson, Steve Williams and Arthur Turner. Additional thanks to Dr. Patel and the nurses and staff at Pearson's Cancer Center and Centra Health. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 6:30-830 p.m. at Finch and Finch, Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service, Gladys and at other times at the home of Tina Moon, 1327 Rhonda Road, Rustburg . A memorial service officiated by Pastor Dave Smeltz will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Kedron Baptist Church in Gladys. Military Honors by The American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36.
