Lexine Rollins Gill

Lexine Rollins Gill, 89 of Altavista, VA passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was the wife of the late Charles Henry Lynch Gill, III for 37 years. She was born September 21, 1934 in Pitt County, NC, to the late William Luther Rollins, Sr. (Bill) and Martha Belle Rollins. She attended Mount Herman United Methodist Church in Lynch Station, VA. Lexine graduated from Emanuel College and East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She planned on a career in education; however, after a two-week trip to visit a friend in Washington, D.C., her friend encouraged Lexine to join her in taking the Civil Service Exam. That day her life took another path. She went to work for the U.S. Federal Government. She worked on Capitol Hill for approximately 28 years as an office manager for several U.S. Congressmen. After retiring in 1984 she and Charley moved to Altavista from Arlington, VA. She is survived by one brother, Jerald Daniel Rollins (Danny) and wife, Edna of Greeneville, NC. Although Lexine and Charley had no children of their own, they were blessed to have many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, as well as many friends. Their home was open to everyone. They loved to entertain and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Lexine and Charley were known for their annual Labor Day weekend "Pig Roast." At any given year, there were hundreds of people gathered to enjoy food, family, friends, fellowship, and music. Before Charley's passing, they enjoyed traveling. They took many trips throughout the United States, as well as Mexico, The Bahamas and Europe. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Dalton Wayne Rollins and William Luther Rollins, Jr. (Billy). A funeral service will be conducted at Finch & Finch Chapel by the Rev. Dawn Compton and Rev. Jeong Seung Lee at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2023, with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Finch & Finch, Inc. Funeral & Cremation Service, Altavista.
