Lisa Dawn Harris Tyree

On Friday, November 29, 2013 at 2:00 a.m. heaven’s angels came for Lisa Dawn Harris Tyree and placed her in Jesus’s loving arms. She fought the cancer battle with strength, determination, dignity and above all her faith. She was preceded in death by her loving step-father, Tommy Roarke, who was a father to her for many years. She is survived by her mother, Brenda Roarke Grishaw (Richard Barry) of Evington; one sister, Dana Harris Bryant of Evington; and her father, Ernest Mosby Harris (Carol) of Staunton, Virginia. Also to cherish her memories are her two loving children, Brennan Grace Tyree and Ethan Reice Tyree of Rustburg. Her greatest joy was her children whom she loved with all her heart. She also leaves behind her nieces, Shania Bryant and Morgan Wall; nephew, Donnie Bryant, Jr. all of Evington; step-brothers, step-sisters, many aunts, uncles, cousins and one special adopted aunt, Patsy Jordan. Lisa enjoyed playing the piano, loved sports, the beach and just hanging out with her children. During her short stay on earth, she served six years of active military duty in the U.S. Air Force and seventeen years with the Virginia Air National Guard. She was active during Desert Storm. Her travels took her to Germany and Spain. She retired as a Master Sergeant and one of her highest honors was having the privilege of riding in a F16 fighter jet. The military was like a second home to her. A celebration of Lisa’s homegoing will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2013 at Jordan Baptist Church by the Rev. Melvin Campbell, Rev. Steve Reaves and Rev. Scott Dean with entombment at Altavista Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military rites will be conducted by the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Honor Guard and American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36. The family will receive friends from 2-4:30 p.m., Sunday at Jordan Baptist Church, 3708 Parkwood Ave., Lynchburg and other times at the residence of Brenda and Barry Grishaw, 257 Castle Craig Drive, Evington. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Jordan Baptist Church, 3708 Parkwood Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Veteran’s Administration and Centra Hospital, they were a wonderful group of people who helped Lisa during her battle with cancer. Also, many thanks to Dr. Dwight Oldham for his patience, understanding, kindness and compassion shown to our beloved Lisa. A special thank you to Genworth Financial Associates and Lynch Station Baptist Church for the recent benefits.
