Max Holt

Max Memory Holt Max Memory Holt, 78, of 1229 County Farm Road, Bedford and formerly of Altavista, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at Bedford County Nursing Home. He was the husband of Audrey Vaiden Thompson Holt. He was born June 16, 1931 in Forest City, North Carolina the son of the late William Hermon Holt and Zennie Philbeck Holt. He was a retired manager of the former Leggett Department Store in Altavista for 32 years. He also owned and operated the Vista Theater and Holt?s Auto Sales. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Altavista where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Holt was a cheerful volunteer for all the communities in which he lived, always willing to help his fellow man. Serving in leadership, Mr. Holt was a past president of the Altavista Chamber of Commerce and instrumental in developing English Park. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chase City. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Elizabeth Hilton and her husband Phillip of Forest, Karen Burke and her husband Fred of Kilmarnock, Patricia Starr and her husband Bob of Haughton, Louisiana, Nancy Burton and her husband Griffin of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Carol Black and her husband Ronnie of Richmond; two sons, Rankin Thompson and his wife Janet of Roanoke and Randy Thompson and his wife Margarita of Charlotte, North Carolina; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Altavista by the Rev. Randy J. Bower with burial to follow in Green Hill Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence of his daughter, Elizabeth Hilton, 1124 North Fairway Drive, Forest.
