Michael Lane Pickrel

At sunrise on Thursday morning, August 18, 2022, Michael Lane Pickrel, beloved husband of Mary Farmer Pickrel for 45 years, received complete healing as he was called by the Lord into eternity. Mike was born October 22, 1950 in Altavista, Virginia, a son of the late Russell Chism Pickrel and Lucille McDowell Pickrel. Mike along with Mary, was the past owner/operator of NAPA Auto Parts, in Altavista, where they spent years serving the community and making many friends along the way. He was a member of George's Creek Hunt Club where he enjoyed the fellowship and meals as much as the hunting. Mike was a dedicated animal lover, and their feline babies were among the favorites. Thru the years, Mike and Mary rescued more cats that one could count. Uncle Mike's fierce love for the multiple generations of nieces and nephews was obvious and they loved him right back. His big smile and lighthearted jokes always made them smile if not out-right laugh. Mike was an antique car enthusiast and refurbished many cars, including his most recent and quite likely his favorite, "Marilyn," a 1949 Chevrolet. Another of his prized restorations was the beautiful antique stoplight that hangs in his shop reminding everyone that Mike was a perfectionist and it showed in everything that ever came out of his much-loved shop on the hill. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Freddie Pickrel and his wife, Jeanette of New London; and a brother-in-law, Bob Jacobs of Pawleys Island, SC. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Jacobs. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Jim Critchley with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Saturday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence, 612 Wards Road, Hurt, Virginia.
