Patricia Foster Carson Wood

Patricia Foster Carson Wood of Lynch Station, died Sunday, September 29, 2013. She was born April 8, 1939 to the late Charles and Lou Morris Foster in Farmville. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Elisabeth Carson-Williams; a very special son-in-law Carl Williams; her dear grandson Andrew Bondurant Whaley; her brother Charles "Don" Foster and his wife Faye of Parksley,VA; one niece Faith Sturgis of Painter, VA; one nephew Charles D. Foster Jr. of Kent, MD; two great nieces and one great nephew. She was preceded in death by a loving son, John Bondurant Carson, Jr., who drowned at the age of 12. Patricia attended Longwood University and in later life proudly graduated from Lynchburg College with a BA in History/Biology and a Master of Education in Counseling. She was a counselor for the Family Violence Prevention Program at the YWCA Women's Shelter in Lynchburg, VA, and later served as the director of the Transitional Living Program for Abused Women sponsored by the Y. She retired from Campbell County Social Services as a Child Protective Service worker. After retirement she volunteered at the Staunton River Public Library in Altavista, VA, as well as D.A.W.N. and Campbell County Department of Social Services. Patricia loved working in her church, St. Victoria Roman Catholic Church in Hurt, VA, as a lay leader, RCIA leader, and choir member. She was a Benedictine Oblate, affiliated with the Benedictine Sisters of VA, Bristow Monastery, Bristow, VA. Her enduring passion was classical music. She was a "Red Hat Lady", a DAR member, and an avid bridge player. A Rosary Service will be held at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 followed by the family receiving friends from 7-8:30. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Victoria Catholic Church, Hurt, with Fr. James A. Gallagher, Jr. celebrant on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. The internment will be a private service at Springhill Cemetery beside the grave of her son.
