    The North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary has set the following dates as Fundraisers this year.

  • Centra 2018 Bereavement Calendar

    Tuesday, February 20, 2018 to Tuesday, December 11, 2018

    Through our Bereavement Program we offer support not only to family members of hospice patients who have passed but to the community as well.
    Throughout 2018 there will be Grief Support Groups held in a specified meeting location in Bedford, Farmville, and Lynchburg. In October 2018, there will be several programs held in the community related to Grief and the Holidays.

  • High Bridge Trail Park

    Saturday, July 28, 2018 to Saturday, August 25, 2018

    High Bridge Trail State Park will be open to the public between Farmville and River Road on July 28 and August 25 from 9-11 p.m. The public is invited to walk or ride the trail under the light of the full moon. Two programs describing nocturnal animals native to Virginia will be held on High Bridge at 9:30 p.m. and again at 10:30 p.m. These programs will cover animal morphology, trophic classifications and ecological functions.
    The closest access to High Bridge is from the Camp Paradise parking area in Prince Edward County. Guests may also choose to walk a mile on the trail from the River Road parking area in Cumberland County. Those using bicycles are asked to use head and tail lights on their bikes to ensure that they will be visible to other guests.     Gretna Volunteer Fire Department, 122 East Gretna Road, Gretna will be having a BBQ Dinner Fundraiser, Saturday, August 18, at the Fire Station. The dinner will start at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Plates include: BBQ, Coleslaw, Baked Beans, Roll, Dessert, and a Drink. Dine in or carry out. Music will be performed by Amber Short and Audie Meadows. There will also be a raffle drawing for a Honda Rancher 4-wheel drive, four wheeler. All donations are appreciated.     On Saturday, Aug. 18, 1 p.m., the Face the Forest race will be held at Poplar Forest, 1542 Bateman Bridge Rd., Forest. Are you up for an adventure? Challenge yourself to beat the clock as you take on a 3.1 mile race through Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest plantation grounds, encountering obstacles (and some mud) along the way. Entry fees will support children's educational programming at Poplar Forest and the Jamerson Family YMCA's annual campaign.

  • CityArts Mosaic Mural At Amazement Square

    On Saturday, August 25, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., the downtown parking lot, home to the CityArts Mosaic Mural will host Amazement Square's 4th Annual Riverfront Chalk Festival & Art Contest. Artists of all ages, backgrounds and abilities will bring this parking lot to life, creating colorful chalk masterpieces with the theme "BE INSPIRED" while competing for coveted prizes. In addition to the chalk art, we invite the community to soak up the last moments of summer with a downtown block party at Amazement Square featuring various summer activities!

  • Touch-A-Truck Set for September 8

    Saturday, September 8, 2018 : 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

    Touch-A-Truck is one of Lynchburg's largest family-friendly events which offers children a hands-on opportunity to explore the large trucks and machines they see but never get to touch. Created and put together annually by the Home Builders Association of Central Virginia, the event is a fundraiser this year for Challenged Sports Exchange and Jubilee Family Development Center. Touch A Truck allows children (and parents too) to climb into the vehicles and meet the people who build, protect and serve the greater Lynchburg communities. The more than 85 vehicles on display will include construction trucks and tractors, police, fire and rescue response vehicles, tractor trailers, cranes, lift trucks, utility and specialty trucks, Military vehicles and even a car-crushing monster truck. The event also features two Monster Truck shows, a sky-diving exhibition, a medical helicopter fly-in, Monster Truck rides, a large Bounce House play area, local mascots, and characters, face painters, food trucks and much, much more. It will be held Saturday, September 8, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Sims Farm, 1898 Harvest Lane 460W, 1/2 mile before Owens Market, Forest.

    Good family fun with FREE live music. Witness the crowning of the Sorghum Queen. Free car, tractor and equipment exhibit.
